Punjab police grilled Olympian boxer Vijender Singh on Monday for more than three hours in connection with the recent Rs. 130-crore drug haul. Vijender maintained that he had never taken drugs, but refused to give blood and hair samples for forensic tests. The boxer said he had “no problem going in for tests with an agency like NADA that has the latest scientific equipment”.
On March 7, Punjab Police recovered 26 kg of heroin from Canada-based alleged smuggler Anoop Singh Kahlon’s house in Zirakpur, 16km from Chandigarh. During questioning, Kahlon revealed that Vijender and his fellow boxer Ram Singh were his “customers”. Later, in an interview to ABP News, Ram Singh said both he and Vijender had been experimenting with heroin.
Top police sources claim in February alone Vijender and Kahlon had spoken on the phone at least a dozen times, while Ram and Kahlon had exchanged over 50 calls during the same time.
Instead of taking Vijender to Fatehgarh Sahib — where Ram Singh and others are being questioned — Punjab Police chose to grill him in Panchkula in Haryana as he is a DSP in that state.

Police quizzed him about the nature of his association with Kahlon, the number of times he visited his Zirakpur residence and about the unusual frequency of telephone calls between the two.
Failing to make any headway in the probe, police resorted to an unusual mode of questioning. For instance, they asked Vijender about his property details, whether he could remember who was the last woman he had spoken to and if his wife knew about it.

Punjab Police wrote down Vijender's statement in Punjabi but the boxer refused to sign it saying that he doesn't know the language.
