Boxing has surely become a demanding sports in our country with our very own boxer Vijender Singh proceeding ahead steadily. The Beijing Olympics bronze medalist Vijender (75 kg) qualifiedfor the 2012 London Olympics by entering into the semi-finals of the middle weight category at the AIBA Asian Olympic Qualifying Event in Astana, Kazakhstan on Sunday April 8.
Vijender Singh who was earlier former world number one, beat Chuluuntumur Tumurkhyag ofMongolia- 2011 Asian Championship silver medalist to win every significant Olympic quota.
The 26-year-old being the two time Olympian, has become the fifth Indian boxer to haveobtained a seat for London Games, after Vikas Krishnan (69kg), Manoj Kumar (64kg), Jai Bhagwan (60kg) and rookie Devendro Singh (49kg).
Vijender said to PTI, “I will give my best in the Olympics and prove myself that I’m the best. I’m much relaxed to have got qualified. The reason that mine being the first Indian boxer to have qualified for the third successive Olympics makes it feel even more special.”

In the opening round Vijender defeated Ishak Waez of Syria, to go ahead beating the MongolianChuluuntumur. Though the start on Sunday was slow with two points down deficit after the opening 3 minutes of play (4:6); but as the second round began, Vijender came back with a bang, gaining over the Mongolian.
Vijender taking the advantage lead by two points ahead (13:11). His sheerful attack, along with uppercuts and straight punches helped him acquire victory by 10 points in the end (27:17).
It was an amazing performance by the Commonwealth games bronze medalist, which gave him the opportunity to enter into his third Olympics.
On Wednesday April 11, 2012 Vijender will play against the bronze medal winner of the same tournament Nursahat Pazziyev of Turkmenistan.
