The moon will be closest to the earth on Sunday night May 5, than will be on any other night in2012 and will emerge symbolically huger. The phenomenon known as ‘supermoon’ will becorresponding tomorrow with ‘Buddha Purnima’.
The distance between the earth and the moon will be 3,56,955 km on May 6 at 9.05 pm, the closest in this year. The angular size of the moon will be 0.5515 degrees, as said by the scientists.

Arvind Paranjpye responded to PTI on phone, “It is very appealing to watch on May 6 that the moon will be setting at the western horizon a few minutes before sunrise and then will be rising again the same evening about an hour after the sunset,” who is the Director of Mumbai-based Nehru Planetarium.

The moon on November 28 will be at the farthest distance from the earth in 2012. The distance between moon and earth will be 4,06,349 km.
