International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed Lasith Malinga as the official event ambassador for the upcoming ICC World T20. ICC made this announcement on Friday June 5 which will take place in the country in September and October.
The 28 year-old Sri Lankan fast bowler is the mutual wicket-taker for Sri Lanka with the spinner Ajantha Mendis in T20 cricket, grabbing 40 wickets from 32 matches.
Malinga had earlier retired from Test cricket and currently he is only playing for Mumbai Indians team in IPL season.

The ICC added, “We had selected Malinga as the Event Ambassador because of his capability to showcase his skills as a proficient role model on and off the field of play. His terrific unpredictable bowling impelled Malinga to global fame. His distinct superb personality is also reflected in his T20 cricket when he bowls amazingly and grasps wickets coolly.”
According to ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat, “Lasith is a super-talented player and is recognized world-wide. It is fantastic to watch him when he goes to bowl on field with his distinguishing action. There will be lots of excitement when Lasith turns to an ambassador for WT20. He is the perfect choice for this role.”
Malinga responded, “I’m pleased to be a significant part in the first ICC World Twenty20 tournament which will be hosted in Asia. I anticipate that the T20 message will proceed to every community and reach out to our loyal fans. Thanks to the ICC as Sri Lanka gets the chance to host a grand event. I would like to invite all the cricket fans to show their kind support to the games. ”
