It has announcedon Friday May 31 that it is discussing with 4 to 5 domestic institutions in order to acquire a new partner for their firm, who can extend their telecom business ahead in India. Before the government auctions the spectrum, Telenor firm is trying its best to solve this situation.
In February, when Supreme Court cancelled 122 of Uninor’s licenses, Telenor had then revealed ofbuilding a new company for its functions in the country. These cancelling of licenses were issued at the regime of former Telecom Minister A Raja.
According to Uninor Managing Director Sigve Brekke, “Regarding this partnership we are considering four to five institutions for partnership. We had asked for permission while in a conference with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. We will soon be revealing our new partner’s name in the middle of the case. Time is still there in our hands.”
After ceasing its joint enterprise with Unitech, the firm intends to take part in fresh auction with the new partner and raising the business in India beyond June 2.
Brekke adds, “The Norwegian PM Trond Giske had met with Dr. Manmohan Singh, the PM of India and also Pranab Mukherjee, the finance minister two weeks ago. Hence we’ll find a suitable partnership soon.”
Almost 14,000 employees of Uninor had requested PM by writing to him earlier so that the operations of the company can be extended till the fresh auctions are supported.
The Norwegian company had funded about $3 billion in India.
