• Google Will be Offering Subsidized Nexus Tablets To Customers Via Online Webstore

Google’s presence in the Android tablet market is undeniably strong and influential primarily because of its open-source Android OS which has reached a new height in the operating system industry. Secondly, Google’s presence wouldn’t just be erased because it also has its own line of tablets which are also competitive in terms of specs, price and quality. But the new reports are suggesting that Google will strengthen its presence in the said market by simply selling its already known products directly to customers. In short, its Google Nexus Tablets would be offered in its online marketplace. It isn’t clear if the company would be the primary supplier of its own product or would just help with the distribution as there are select carriers which are also distributing Nexus Tablets from Google.

A story published by The Wall Street Journal tells that Google will be offering subsidized Nexus Tabletsvia online webstore. It is not clear whether such web store is actually existing and doing business right now. Also, the plan of subsidizing these tablets would put them on a better perspective as they will be offered for a considerably lower price compared to other tablets of the same caliber. The Wall Street Journal is positive in claiming that subsidized Nexus Tablets will play in a 200-ish price range which is of course a better deal for a device with specs like Google Nexus.
But for those who haven’t known yet, Google has actually tried this route before; the company tried direct-to-consumer business scheme but it didn’t really work out. It started this kind of business during the time of the Nexus One. Perhaps the reason why it didn’t work out before is because the devices weren’t subsidized and people weren’t ready to make a one-time purchase of $600 for a handset. While the price isn’t really that high but Nexus One was considered a luxury that time. The people’s minds are already set that these kinds of goods are often offered with a contract and a monthly amortization instead of a one-time bulk payment. So instead of making an appeal because the price is technically than the total payment you make when you’re on a 2-year contract, people go to companies that offer the device on a monthly basis.
We still have to see if Google would succeed the second time it tries to enter this kind of business. Withsubsidized Nexus Tablets on the shelves, people would surely be attracted especially if they will be offered in a 200-dollar price range.
