    Priyanka Chopra adopts lioness of Ranchi Zoo, Priyanka Chopra adopts lioness


    Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is contributing towards the betterment of animals in an immense way. She has adopted a lioness Sundari who is from Ranchi’s Birsa Munda zoo, as informed by an official on Saturday.
    As popularly known as “junglee billi” Priyanka has provided Rs 2 lakh cheque to the Ranchi zoo authorities, so that they will take proper care of the animals. Under the Priyanka Chopra foundation, the cheque has been issued. The validity of the adoption of lioness will be of one yearfrom 2012 to April 30, 2013.
    zoo official said the sources, “We got a cheque of Rs.200,000 from Priyanka Chopra foundation, as she has recently adopted a lioness.”
    Last year the actress had adopted tigress Durga, the contract of which ended April 30. It is in 2011 that the Ranchi zoo initiated such kind of scheme for adoption of animals with a period ofone year to 11 years.
    As per the zoo director P K Verma, “The actor has shown enthusiasm this time towards adopting a lion. Nothing in particular has been written in the letter along with the cheque.”
    The money is utilized so that the animals are kept in a good condition and also to develop awareness about wildlife for the people to know. Few corporate houses and public sector undertakings are now adopting elephants, peacock, tigers and leopards, as well as individuals.
