• Air India to get three Boeing Dreamliners this month

Air India Ltd. will be acquiring three first 787 Dreamliner jet planes from Boeing Co in the end of this month. This has been informed by our country’s civil aviation minister Ajit Singh on Wednesday June 6, as he further went on to say that the two companies have settled the long argument related to compensation from the U.S. plane maker for delay of delivery. Thecompensation figure hasn’t been revealed by the minster.

Plans have been put in to deliver long-range planes plus hiring new pilots for local and overseas flights which would help overcome the losses made by Air India earlier of flight cancellations because of pilot’s month-long strike.

Mr. Singh told in the conference that for the first 6 to 8 weeks, the carrier will be using the twin-aisle planes to function the domestic flights. Later fromAugust aircraft will be used on international flightstowards London, and from September by flights towards Australia.

For the last five years, Air India faced continuous loses because of high fuel rise and also interest costs.

Mr. Ajit Singh added that Air India won’t restore those 101 pilots who were dismissed because of strike. He told, “Those pilots have to reapply when Air India advertises for required vacancies.”

By November Air India will extend its international flights further. Mr. Singh proposed a plan which involves continuing the flights towards Hong Kong from July and starting flights to Kuala Lumpur from August. Hong Kong flight will persist to give service to Seoul and Osaka from August.
