Union Railway Minister, Dinesh Trivedi has presented the Railway Budget 2012-13 which has created a lot of fuss in his own party, when Trinamool Congress leaders showed theirunhappiness with the proposed fare hikes in the budget.
As per the sources, it is assumed that Trivedi may soon resign from his post as his budget has annoyed the party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.
According to Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandhopadhaya’s quote, “Trinamool Congress wants withdrawal of rail fare hike.”
The railway minister asserted that he put forward the hikes in fare after reflecting the needs and demands of the Indian railways. At the time of an interview with a private TV channel, Trivediclaimed that Mamata Banerjee has never obstructed in his works.
He continued, “This small rise in fare is needed. Without this, we cannot progress amenities and provide cleaner or safer trains. Contemplating on the difficulties of ‘aam admi’, the rail fare hasn’t been hiked largely.”
On Wednesday March 14, the minister announced that Rs 12 will be hiked over 300 km journey and ticket fares will be increased by 3 paise/km for express trains,5 paise/km for sleeper class, 2 paise/km for second class, 30 paise/km for 1st AC and 10 paise/km for 3rd AC.
