• Amazon Launches An Online Shopping Service In India

A good news for all online shopaholics in India. Amazon, the most popular online shopping site in the world, has launched its Indian Avatar. People from India can access the Amazon’s Indian Avatar by visiting Junglee.com. The website will not be selling anything directly to consumers right now. Instead it will allow all the online and offline retailers of India to showcase their products on the website.
Junglee.com is currently not an e-commerce site, and right now it will be used as a price comparison tool until Amazon comes up with a new idea for the betterment of the e-commerce business in India. It’s been just a day since the beta version of the website has gone live. When you visit the website, you’ll be welcomed with the featured items. Anyone can login into Junglee.com with his Amazon’s username and password.

A search box that is placed across the top of all the pages where you can search for books, electronics, computers or anything you want. There is also a ‘Department’ menu at the top-left corner of the website that will work the same way as the categories. You can look up for what you want by browsing through the ‘Department’ drop down menu and selecting the appropriate category or you can simply enter the appropriate words in the search box.
For Example if you want to look up ‘Revolution 2020’ on the website, simply use the search box with the exact words. If the item is listed in Junglee.com, the first most result will be the item you’re looking for, and when you proceed further, you’ll be taken to the product page, which contains information about the product and various sellers you can purchase the product from. You’ll also find popular online stores like India Plaza, Homeshop18, Future Bazzar and many others there.

You’ll be provided with the different prices of the same item from different sellers including Amazon.com. When you select the seller you want to purchase the product from, you’ll be taken the seller’s own website, where you have to complete the buying process such as signing up, paying for the product, entering the delivery address, etc. But keep in mind that Amazon has nothing to do with the deal between you and the seller.
As I stated above, the website is currently in its beta phase so we’re not currently in the position to talk what it will be all about when it comes out of the beta stage. I think Amazon will be going to convert Junglee.com into an e-commerce website very soon. Popular online stores such as Flipkart and Infibeam need to be alert as the gaint shopping site takes its first step into the e-commerce business in India.
Check out Amazon’s Indian avatar Junglee.com and do share your views !! Meanwhile, if you want to compare Junglee.com price with Flipkart and Infibeam, Amit Agarwal of Labnol.org has made a tool that will sit on your browser bookmark bar. For instance, visit a product page at Junglee.com and hit the bookmarklet, it will instantly tell you the price of the same item from Flipkart and Infibeam.
