Pakistani President, Asif Ali Zardari who was on a day’s visit to India, paid a bow at the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer on Sunday April 8. He also went ahead in offering a grant of Rs. 5 crores on behalf of his government at the shrine.
He along with his 23-year-old son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari offered their prayers plus ‘chadars’ at the dargah. There was tight security around the shrine. Zardari even wrote a message in the holy book.
Last time he visited Ajmer with his wife Benazir Bhutto in 2005.
Accompanied with Zardari was Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, where they both on behalf of Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, offered a ‘chadar’.
Earlier in the day, Zardari reached Googhra helipad, 12 km away from Ajmer and moved ahead in a bulletproof car to the dargah. His procession consisted of 20 vehicles. The city saw a tight security.
As per the instructions of district administration, the houses facing the dargah were kept closed at the time of Zardari’s visit, shops leading to shrine was closed between 1.30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Devotees were not permitted from visiting the shrine from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Almost 3,000 policemen were positioned near the shrine and 80 police personnel posted inside the dargah.
Zardari had a proper, fruitful discussion with Indian PM Dr. Manmohan Singh while stopping in Delhi.
Zardari visited the shrine for an hour, and then flew back to Pakistan.
