• 15 killed as Hampi Express hits stationary train in Andhra Pradesh


    Yet another train accident occurs in our country, and this time it is in Andhra Pradesh, as a passenger train collided with a stationary goods train.
    Nearly 15 people died and more than 70 others were injured seriously when Hubli-Bangalore Hampi Express train hit the stationary goods train at Penukonda railway station in AP Anantapur district around 3.00 a.m. today May 22.

    • The death toll may vary as few of the injured are asserted to be in a crucial condition.
    • As per the railway official, a signal error emerges to have directed to such a mishap.
    • Because of this collision, 4 bogies were derailed and 1 of them caught fire dangerously. The chief impact was in the women’s compartment.
    • Among the dead, were children. Few bodies were burnt in such a way that they were unrecognizable.
    • Few passengers were trapped in the destructive bogies and the rescue workers were utilizing the gas cutters to rescue them.
    • It is believed that all the victims belong to Karnataka.
    • The train no. 16591 left Hubli at 6 p.m. on Monday, and it was to reach Bangalore station at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The train commences in Karnataka and passes through places of Anantapur district of AP before making an entry to Karnataka.
    • Soon after the accident happened, the local policefire-fighting and railway personnel hurried towards the spot, and began rescue-relief operations.
    Rushing to the accident sight, Union Railways Minister Mukul Roy announced for Rs. 5 lakh compensation each to the kin of the deadRs.1 lakh to the seriously injured and Rs.50,000 to the other injured. He even ordered for an enquiry.
    AP’s Minister for Revenue Raghuveera Reddy informed the reporters that the 70 injured weremoved to hospitals in Penukonda, Hindupur and Puttaparthi, after his visit. Whole of the district administration rushed for rescue-relief work.
    Other senior officials and collector Durga Das of Anantapur district  are managing the rescue and relief operations.
    Another state minister Sailajanath and Member of Parliament K. Chiranjeevi also went to review the scene of the accident.
    Chief Minister of AP, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said to the officials to offer every help to the injured and other passengers stuck up at the station.
